FurnituAR is a concept by Kyle Pace

This concept site is fully functional and you can click through the entire user flow including a mock checkout experience. The experience can be translated into a real-world store, even one that is yet to produce 3D models of their products! You can contact me if you would like to learn more, or want to hire me for a project. You can read more below to learn how and why I created this concept.

The Concept

My goal with this concept site is to showcase the ability to bring Augmented Reality to ecommerce sites on both web and mobile. While several major players including Amazon, Ikea, and Best Buy now support viewing many products in AR they all require customers to download their proprietary apps to use the technology. For customers who don't know the technology exists within the apps they may never discover that this feature is a feature available to them. Using Vectary I was able to blend the experience on mobile and web so that wherever customers discover the site from they are able to use AR to help complete their purchases.

The Tech

To put this concept together I used VECTARY, an easy to use 3D modeling program that is designed for use on the web. VECTARY makes it simple to bring in models from other sources, create product mockups, or create 3D scenes within the app.

The feature that mattered most to this project was the ability to publish 3D content to the web and the fact that there is the ability to enable AR viewing for anything published using the software. It makes it seamless to publish for both web and mobile and is currently the easiest AR publishing platform on the market that I am aware of.

Beyond The Concept

While this site was based around furniture the concept can be applied to a wide variety of objects. A shop only needs 3D models of products and a designer familiar with VECTARY or similar software to make this a reality. In this era defined by COVID-19 it has become difficult for people to see items in physical stores and there are many items that consumers may be reluctant to purchase online. Using Augmented reality allows consumers to bring items into their own space and get a feel for them like no other technology is capable of doing. Increasingly user friendly photogrammetry software and the Lidar sensor on the latest generation of Apple devices makes the reality of small shops creating their own 3D models for use in this way is becoming easier than ever.
